This guide gives our recommend method for repainting the logo on 27WON brand intercoolers
-
Results will vary depending on the quality of prep work & care taken in the painting process
-
This guide is for all 27WON Intercoolers. Some images may not depict your specific intercooler. The process is similar
-
Remove the front bumper from the car to gain access to the intercooler
-
Remove the intercooler from the car
-
-
-
Once the intercooler has been removed from the Civic, place it on a clean work area as shown
-
The front of the intercooler should be facing up, with the logo positioned as shown
-
To ensure the intercooler remains stable and level, place foam or wood blocks under the intercooler
-
If using wood, ensure wood blocks are wrapped in a protective cloth or material to prevent damage to the back of the intercooler
-
-
-
If you repaint the face of the intercooler, you may lose the logo positioning, and you will need to manually center the stencil on the intercooler
-
For light scratches and defects, use 600 grit sandpaper (or Green Scotch-Brite) and lightly scuff the surface by hand until the defects are less visible
-
For larger defects, lower grit sandpaper (like 200) may be required. To achieve a smooth finish after using a lower grit sandpaper, you then must sand with progressively higher grit (400, 600, 1000) until the desired finish is achieved
-
After sanding, clean the surface using compressed air or micro-fiber towel, and apply black touch-up paint as necessary
-
27WON recommends Rustoleum 2X Ultra Paint & Primer in Flat Black for touching up face of the FMIC
-
After repairs have been completed, allow sufficient time for paint to dry before proceeding to applying new logo
-
-
-
Locate Intercooler Stencil
-
Carefully "pop" out the die-cut letters of the stencil
-
Use caution to prevent the stencil from bending or creasing
-
Stencil will appear as shown
-
-
-
Center the stencil over the existing logo
-
Of course, if you repainted the face of the intercooler you have to manually align the logo
-
When placing the stencil over the existing logo, ensure the stencil is aligned properly by confirming that only white paint is visible
-
Being careful to not bump the stencil, tape the stencil in position with blue painters tape
-
Do not use masking tape, duct tape, or other types of tape as they may leave adhesive or damage the finish
-
-
-
It's recommended to use thick packing paper or newspaper to masking the entire intercooler. Sufficient coverage is required or paint overspray WILL occur
-
Gather/Cut QTY(4). roughly 3ft x 3ft sheets of paper
-
Place the first sheet of paper on the top of the intercooler core
-
Tape as shown
-
Place the second & third sheets on the sides of intercooler core
-
Tape as shown
-
Place the fourth sheet on the bottom of intercooler core
-
Tape as shown
-
-
-
For repainting the "27WON" logo, 27WON recommends Rustoleum 2X Ultra Paint & Primer in Semi-Gloss White
-
Read and follow manufacturers instructions on the paint can
-
Hold the can ~ 6 inches vertical from the stencil surface
-
Point the spray from the can straight down or excessive overspray will occur
-
Spray the paint straight down while moving side to side in a slow and consistent pace
-
Spray 2-3 coats of paint until white color is consistent over all exposed intercooler core
-
Verify the edges and corners of the entire logo have solid white color
-
-
-
Allow sufficient time for the paint to dry before proceeding
-
Let paint dry fully
-
Remove the tape holding the paper to the intercooler
-
Remove the attached paper
-
Remove the tape holding the stencil to the intercooler
-
Carefully lift the entire stencil straight off the intercooler
-
-
-
Verify:
-
Paint overspray does not cause letters to blend into each other
-
Corners and edges have sharp line and consistent color
-
If logo quality is poor and needs to be repainted, it's recommended to cover the logo in black paint, allow to dry, and repeat the painting process already outlined
-
Reinstall intercooler on car
-
Reinstall front bumper
-
-
-
This completes the repainting process of your 27WON Performance Intercooler when using the 27WON FMIC Stencil
